THE PARTNERS

Jim Michelsen

After graduating from the University of South Carolina, Jim started in the employee benefit business in 1970 as a Regional Group Insurance and Pension Sales Manager with Lincoln Life Insurance Company in Charlotte, NC.

Jim left Lincoln to start Fringe Benefit Review, a third party administrator (TPA) and employee benefits consulting firm. He sold Fringe Benefit Review to Lincoln National Life Insurance Company in 1988 and the name changed to Core Source.

Shortly thereafter, Jim formed another TPA, National Claims Administrative Services (NCAS) in Charlotte, NC. In 1999, he sold NCAS to Carefirst, based in Owings Mills, Maryland, which also owns other TPA’s as well as Blue Cross franchises.

Sean Michelsen

Sean graduated from the University of Southern California, Marshall School of Business, with a BS in Business Administration and a concentration in Entrepreneurial Studies. After graduating from USC, Sean received a professional designation in Personal Financial Planning from UCLA.

Sean worked with Jim at NCAS for most of his summers throughout college, learning the employee benefit business. After graduating from USC, Sean started his career with Great-West Healthcare in Los Angeles as a medical and 401k group manager. After his second year he was the youngest large case group manager in the country and one of the overall top 20 group managers in the country.

In 2003 Jim and Sean teamed up to start the Michelsen Group, an employee benefit consulting firm which has enjoyed rapid growth and very happy clients.
